Mama Mania's Best Cabbage

  • 1 medium size cabbage
  • 1 small can tomato paste
  • 1 pkg of cut up stew meat
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 medium onion
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 3 medium stalks of celery (string removed)
  • Salt (1 tbls), pepper (1 tbls), garlic powder (1 tbls), garlic salt (1 tbls)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Wash meat -- soak in clean water in sink -- wash again -- set aside in refrigerator. Cut up cabbage in 1 inch squares. Cut carrots and celery in 1 inch pieces. In a LARGE pot, saute oil, carrots, onions, meat. When meat is browned on each side, add cabbage to pot. Add tomato paste. Fill tomato paste can with water twice and add to pot. Cover and simmer on medium heat for about 1 1/2 hours. Each 1/2 hour stir cabbage (it will shrink throughout process of cooking). after 45 minutes of cooking - add brown sugar and stir. Add more sugar to taste if wanted. Eat and dip with challah bread -- delicious!!!!!!!!
